How to Install Java Runtime Environment
Brief Summary
U-Compare requires Java 6 with Java Web Start. Java 6 usually includes Java Web Start. If you are seeing a message that you don't have to install Java, then both Java 6 and Java Web Start is already installed in your machine.

There might be another versions of Java 6 for the OSes not listed above, but it would require skill to install and use them. Our description below is for Sun Java.
Java and Java Web Start
What is Java
The Java framework is platform which allow for developing and running programs written in the Java Programming Language. The Java Platform permits to run the same Java code in diferent Operating Systems and Processors. Thats why a specific software called Virtual Machine must be installed on the specific machine.
What is Java Web Start?
Java Web Start is an application deployment technology that gives you the
power to launch full-featured applications with a single click from your
Web browser. You can download and launch applications, such as U-compare,
without going through complicated installation procedures. You can find
more information about Java Web Start on the Sun Microsystems web page.
Prerequisites
In order to install Java and Java Web Start, you must have permission to install software on your machine. You must either be an administrator on your machine, or be granted permission by an administrator to do installations. If you do not log on to your machine, and are its only user, you are probably the administrator. If you have previously installed software on your machine, you will be able to install Java Web Start.
Step by step Java installation
Currently 64bit versions do not support Java Web Start, please use 32bit versions for 64bit systems too.
1. The first thing you have to do is to go to the Java Download page: http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp. You are going to see the next page, do click on the button "FREE JAVA DOWNLOAD"

2. The download should start automatically. However you might need to permit the browser to download the requirements. If a warning yellow bar like the one shown in the image appears then you have to continue this tutorial, if it does not appear please go to the step 4.

3. In order to permit the browser to download the software have to do click over the message and a context menu will appear. You have to choose the first option "Install ActiveX Control..." to continue the installation.

4. It should apperat a confirm dialog. You have to do click on "Install" button.

5. The installer start asking for the Licence Agreement. You have to read the licence and click Accept.

6. After some process and if there was no problem you should see an information message saying that Java has been installed.

7. After the process the page on the browser will be redirected to a page like the one is shown above. You can confirm the Java has been installed succesfully doing click on the button labbeled "VERIFY INSTALLATION".

8. You should see the next confirmation message if all went well.
